Steroids Use Puts a Damper on Value of Certain Sports Memorabilia |
| 3/1/2008 6:41:39 AM |
Baseball memorabilia collectors don't want the autograph of any player tainted by the accusations of drug use.-steroids in baseball specifically. Many are in a holding pattern about pricing, awaiting the outcome of congressioanl hearings and hoping they won't have to part with more of their investments. More than 80 players were named in December in an alleged doping scandal.
Former St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Mark McGwire saw his rookie card which was valued at $250 in 1998 fall to $30, after he refused to answer questions about steroids in baseball before a senatel committee in 2005.
Collectors are turning up their noses at displaying a Roger Clemens, Mark McGwire or Barry Bonds baseball. Collectors feel these players have put a stain on the game.
Here is Mark McGwire's appearance befor a congressioanl committee
